Hostas have succulent, lush foliage that has a mounding habit. Some of them get quite large, so it is important to plan for mature size to prevent overcrowding. If your garden is already quite full, try one of the small cultivars. Many varieties are variegated which can add tremendous depth of texture to the plant. However, don’t be afraid to try some solid color cultivars because they can still be quite dramatic.
