Astilbe

Astilbe have glossy fern like foliage that provides a nice lacy texture. Flowers are born on showy plumes that arise over the leaves in shades of white, pink, red, and lavender. The flowers can last several weeks providing good color to brighten up shady spots. Astilbe like rich moist soil, try planting them in areas where moss is growing. Add mulch to retain moisture in soils that are well drained. Hot afternoon sun can scorch them but they can tolerate a few hours of cool early morning sun if needed.
